If I could say one thing to Brett Favre, it would be this: retire. Please retire.
For as long as I can remember, I've been a Brett Favre fan. I cheered for the rival Green Bay Packers simply because he was their quarterback. I was sad when he retired, and happy when he changed his mind and came back. I tried to be sympathetic when he was in the midst of his decision, going back and forth, and leaving eventual heir-replacement Aaron Rogers in limbo. I was sad when he went to the New York Jets, but happy that he was still playing.
But then he dragged us all through THE DECISION again. I was less understanding, but ultimately happy when he joined the Minnesota Vikings and continued his epic career.
Then before the 2010 season, he announced his retirement...and then, practically instantly it seemed, came back for another season. I wasn't understanding anymore. I wasn't sympathetic. My abusive relationship with Brett Favre was coming to an end. Instead of blindly following along out of loyalty, I was finally starting to get fed up. I can only get strung along for so long before becoming apathetic.
The final straw, of course, came with the allegations that he sent lewd pictures of himself to a woman on the Jets' staff when he played in New York. Athletes should have personal lives, and if he wants to text pictures of his junk to people, I'm really ok with that, except now the legendary quarterback is becoming a joke. It's becoming comical to watch him unravel.
He's injured, he's got serious allegations against him, he's being fined by the league, and no one can take him seriously anymore. He's at the end of the line, and he needs to walk away for good.
